Connect Claude Code to HEY

Claude can read, search, draft, and organize your HEY email for you. Connect it once with the HEY CLI (a small program that lets other tools talk to your HEY account) and you can ask Claude to handle tasks in plain language instead of clicking through your inbox yourself. Setup takes about five minutes, and you don't need to write any code.

What you need

  • HEY, signed in to the account you want to connect.
  • Claude Desktop — the desktop app, not the browser version.
  • The Code tab in Claude, not the Chat tab. Chat can't run programs on your computer, so these steps won't work there.

Install the CLI

Open the Code tab in Claude and ask it to install the CLI:

Install the HEY CLI from hey.com/agents

Claude finds the install command on that page and runs it. This takes a few minutes.

Connect your account

Before you continue: confirm you're signed in to the HEY account you want to connect. Claude connects to whichever account is currently signed in, and there's no confirmation step to catch a mistake.

Ask Claude to finish the authorization:

Can you run this for me?

A browser tab opens and confirms the connection. Return to Claude once you see it — that tab is the only confirmation you'll get.

Confirm it worked

Back in Claude, you'll see that you're signed in and ready to go. From here, ask about your HEY mail, calendar, to-dos, and contacts in plain language.

Prompts to try first

Work through these three in order.

  1. What's the latest email in my inbox? — Tests the connection. You don't need HEY open in a browser.
  2. Tell me what emails I haven't replied to yet. — Checks every inbox thread and Reply Later, and flags what's most overdue.
  3. Draft responses for all of the most overdue emails. — Drafts land in your HEY drafts for you to review and edit before sending.

Turn off terminal output

Claude may show commands for HEY's separate terminal app (the TUI). You don't need these if you're working from Claude. Turn them off:

Can you not show those terminal commands in future?

Turn off session memory

Claude keeps short notes on what you discuss, so it can pick up a thread from last week. To turn this off:

Can you disable the memory settings so you don't remember these sessions?

This applies going forward. Ask again to turn memory back on.

More things to try

  • Clear out Reply Later — ask what's been sitting there the longest.
  • Summarize a long thread — get the shape of a conversation without reading all of it.
  • Research around an email — someone proposes a trip; ask about the weather and what to do there.
  • Fill gaps in your calendar — ask Claude to scan recent emails and add any missing events.
  • Read a dense document — ask Claude to flag anything unfair in a lease or contract.

What Claude can and can't do

Claude only takes actions you ask for. It never acts on its own. Every action comes with a summary of what it searched and what it changed. You can turn off memory at any time, or log out to disconnect Claude completely.
