Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) and Login Security

We require two-factor authentication (2FA) for your HEY account — it helps keep your HEY account even more secure.

Before getting started with the set up, make sure you've got a Two-Factor Authentication app on your phone. Many 2FA apps are free. We recommend Microsoft Authenticator, but you can use DUO, Google, or 1Password or your preferred app for 2FA.

Setting up 2FA

Set up or replace your existing 2FA setup by going to your profile picture > Login & Security > Two-Factor Authentication. HEY will walk you through the flow to set up your 2FA. Once you have set up 2FA, you cannot disable it or turn it off for your HEY account.

Recovery Codes

If your 2FA isn't working, you'll need a recovery code to log in. You'll be prompted to save your recovery codes in the 2FA setup process. You can save these to your computer, print them, or whatever you'd like — keep them available so you can access your account.

Replacing Recovery Codes

If you are almost out of recovery codes then you should generate a new set to use just in case you are without your authenticator app.

  1. Click your Avatar, then select Login & Security from the menu.
  2. Click 'Recovery Codes'
  3. Enter in your password
  4. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click 'Generate new recovery codes'
  5. Follow the workflow to generate and save new codes.

Security Key

HEY supports security keys to keep your login more secure. Security keys are a hardware device that helps verify your identity, like a USB key or fingerprint reader. You can set up your security key from your profile picture > Login & Security > Security keys.
