The Screener
You screen your calls, so why can’t you screen your emails? With HEY, you can. HEY puts you in complete control of who’s allowed to email you. The first time someone emails you, you get to decide if you want to hear from them again.
How is this different from a spam filter?
HEY uses a filter that keeps spam from reaching The Screener. But what about those emails that aren’t technically spam? Like a newsletter someone else signed you up for, an inquiry from a salesperson, or a friend of a friend’s uncle’s brother’s neighbor that got a hold of your email address. That’s where The Screener comes in. It gives you full control over who gets to email you — and who doesn’t.
Can I see a list of the contacts I've screened out?
Yes! Head over to HEY’s Screener History to see a list senders you've screened out. You can also screen in anyone that's been screened out here and vice versa.
- Click your avatar to access your Accounts & Settings
- Click Screener History
Can I screen out an existing contact?
Yes! If you've changed your mind about a contact, you can screen them out. When you screen them back in, you'll see any email they've sent you within the last 90 days.
To screen out a person you’ve already screened in:
- Click the HEY menu
- Click Contacts
- Click the contact you'd like to screen out
- Click the Delivering To option
- Click Screened Out
Can I pre-screen people with a Yes?
Adding someone to your contacts — manually or imported — will automatically give them the green light to bypass the Screener.
💡TIP: Share your Speakeasy code so new senders can bypass your Screener.
Are people notified if I screen them out?
Nope. HEY doesn’t send anything back to the sender — your decision is private.
